WHAT IS MATCHA

What is matcha?

Matcha is the finely ground form of the tea leaf. Matcha tea is delicately shade-grown which stimulates the chlorophyll production in the leaves. Chlorophyll is the reason that matcha has a deep green color. Our matcha is stone milled into a fine powder and it hails from Kagoshima, Japan.

Matcha has a long and storied history... The earliest days of matcha can be traced back to the Tang Dynasty in China. This means that matcha's powerful properties have been appreciated and consumed for centuries. Buddhist Monks have also been open about their appreciation for matcha, as it helps drinkers to attain a calm and meditative state.

What is the difference between "ceremonial" grade and "culinary" grade matcha?

Ceremonial grade matcha comes from the first leaves of the harvest and these leaves typically have a smoother, more balanced flavor. The matcha harvest is short, so the ceremonial grade matcha is the very first leaves to be picked, hence why the ceremonial grade is considered to be the highest quality leaf.

What is the caffeine content of matcha?

Generally, matcha has about 1/3 the amount of caffeine as coffee. However, in our bottles, each serving of our matcha concentrate has approximately 100 mg of caffeine! That's because each bottle is highly concentrated... You only need 4 oz of liquid to make a cup of your delicious matcha latte!

Why drink matcha over other teas or coffees?

We love all forms of tea, but we prefer drinking matcha for the antioxidant properties. Matcha contains approximately 163x the amount of antioxidants as green tea! It's one of the most concentrated sources of antioxidants on the planet, and it's just really delicious (in our humble opinion).
